Hi. Anybody heard of the distar 8900 GPS receiver? This is commonly being sold on ebay unbranded. Had the misfortune to buy it. Dosent work for more than 2 mins before it disconnects. If anyone has bought this, have you found a solution? I would be interested to know because presently I am looking to replace it after only a few weeks of sheer frustration. Worse thing there is no support for this on the web - unless of course you can read Taiwanese. I have heard good things about the xtrac II. I would appreciate if somebody with any experience of the xtrac would like to share.

hi Alex,
it takes a while to get a fix on a satellit, at most times 2D very rarely 3D. Tried placing the GPS receiver at various different positions within the car. The route is set and the journey begins, however within a couple of minutes the link between the receiver and the satellit is broken although there is a connection between the GPS receiver and the pda. I have to restart the receiver (on-off switch) and it goes thorugh the rigmoral of making a connection between pda/receiver and receiver/satellit. For subsequent restarts I do not have to reset the route - it picks up from the current location until another break in connection....and the process starts again.
I will try to place the maps on the CF card and see if that makes a difference. Presently TomTom navigator3 and the maps have been installed on the SD card. I wonder if it would make a difference if the software is installed on the pda and not the card. |

Maps on SD is the cause, a known issue with the 2210 when using a BT GPS. Switch to CF for map storage and all will be well again ![Smile](modules/Forums/images/smiles/icon_smile.gif) _________________ Darren Griffin |

Hey Darren,
Thats magic. It does really work. :D
I was about to throw the receiver away, as a last throw of the dice posted a question here just so that I could justify what I was about to do. Installed the maps on the CF card, tried it on a journey for the kids school run and that went well. Admittedly, this is not the best BT receiver around but for a newbie will do the trick for now.
Thanks |
