|
|
I try to explain my problem with my imperfect english skills..
I'm trying to connect my Magellan Meridian to iPAQ h2110 using serial cable.
I have a cable for Magellan that converts its own port to "female" serial port.
Accordingly I have a cable for PDA that converts its own port to "female" serial port.
I used a gerder changer adapter that has spike connectors on both sides to connect these two female ports. But my PDA isn't receiving any information from GPS.
The adapter looks like this:
The other side:
\ooooo/
-\oooo/
And the other:
-/oooo\
/ooooo\
I don't have a voltage meter to verify it, but I guess upper row pins are connected to lower row pins on the other side. If so pin 1 should be connected to pin 1 etc.. Any ideas what could be wrong at my setup? All the cables work when used separately and GPS works fine with laptop. |

You need a null modem gender changer (where all the lines are crossed) _________________ Lutz

I still can't get it working..
Before solding an adapter, I tried connecting ports with pieces of wires.
Now PDA recognizes at least some signal, but it says "No NMEA type signal".
GPS manual says:
PIN2: transmit
PIN3: receive
PIN5: ground
In the picture connections are surely wrong, but i tried with no luck connecting
GPS pin2 to PDA pin3 and
GPS pin3 to PDA pin2
as some picture on the net suggested.

Have you set the Magellan to output NMEA protocol?
You can verify that by connecting the Magellan to a Notebook and looking at the data in a terminal program.
The wires (2,3,GND) should be ok. _________________ Lutz

Yes it is outputting NMEA, and it works fine with same programs PC version.
Is the GND wire necessary to attach, if I try different connections with transmit & receive wires? |

Yes, GND is absolutely required.
How about the Baud rate? Have you set it to the same value as on the PC? _________________ Lutz

Baud rates match, but i quess GND was the reason. I was too lazy to attach it when I tried different connections.
I quess the right setup is:
GPS pin2 -> PDA pin3
GPS pin3 -> PDA pin2
GND from GPS pin5 to PDA pin5 (across)
I'll try tomorrow if it works. Thanks for the help! |

This is correct.
But it is completely wrong in the picture (5>1, 3>3, 2>4) and that is why it does not work. _________________ Pc-Mobile
