I wish to use a gps navigation system for both the car and long-distance walking .... although the car is the most important use.
I think, from looking at this excellent web-site, that I want an Ipaq 4700 bluetooth PDA. coupled to a Fortuna clip-on bluetooth gps receiver.
I have a Ford Focus car with a heated windscreen, so I assume that the bluetooth gps will be better for me, given that I can find a reasonable place to site it. (hopefully without an exterior aerial) ... any suggestions please?
My biggest problem is which software to use. I think I want TomTom Navigator 3.
Does that appear to be the best option for my needs and hardware?
It really depends on your needs, there's lots of software out there and each piece is tailored to a specific set of requirements.
If you're looking for 3D views, customisable POI's, toll road avoidance then TomTom Navigator 3 and CoPilot Live 5 will be the better of the best. If you're looking for TTS which speaks road names to turn into rather than just turn left or turn right, then CoPilot Live 5 will be a requirement.
You may want to check out the PDA Street Routing Reviews, the ones to mainly look out for that are usually the favourites are TomTom Navigator 3, CoPilot Live 5, Navman SmartST, Navigon and Destinator.

Don't let this in any way be a decisive issue for you. I have a Mondeo with a 'quickclear' screen and have used a wired, bluetooth and CF receiver through it without any signal reduction issues. The 'quickclear' screen does not have the same detrimental effect as a heat reflective screen.

Thanks Steve.
That will make things a lot easier. I certainly didn't want to drill a hole in the roof for an aerial! I will take your advice, although, thinking about it ... a bluetooth might make things easier for street walking etc.
Many thanks for taking the time out to adivise me, it is appreciated.
