The GR-231 had a mode that switches the receiver off when there's no Bluetooth link for more than 15min. So if I'm using it without Bluetooth, how does it "know" to stay on?

The manual shows the serial interface having both transmit and receive lines. Does the communicating software have to keep sending the 231 something to keep it awake? I thought NEMA protocol was only one way, from the receiver?

The other end (PC or Pocket PC) can send configuration commands back to the receiver. For example which NMEA sequences to send at which interval, switch between NMEA and SiRF mode, trickle mode parameters, SBAS, reset of current GPS position etc etc. That's why the receiver needs both lines.

So if the PC/PPC application doesn't send it anything (it's just looking for NMEA data), then without a Bluetooth connection, the 231 will just go to sleep after 10mins? :-(

After posting a new thread about this I discovered I should have placed it overhere.

It seems Holux made a huge mistake that makes their mouse-mode useless!

Hmm, th ereview here mentions lower power mode too. Presumably this wasn't verified.

Oops. Message above in wrong thread. What I meant to say was that the mouse mode was mentioned in the review here (as well), but presumably the issue of the unit shutting down either wasn't teted or wasn't experienced at all.
