The other day I came to drive home only to find the XDA II locked up out of memory caused by the recording button being pressed without knowing it. It would not respond to anything other than a hard reset.
Result everything lost.
I use Sprite Backup PC Agent on the PC and it backs up everything on the XDA including the SD card to the PC once every day when the XDA is docked in it's cradle.
Dumped the XDA into the cradle, allowed to sync via active sync then ran Sprite Restore to restore the previous days backup. Once completed did a soft reset and everything was back as it was including CP5 all it's settings. Did not need to re install anything or enter any registration keys.
Backups can be a PPC saver and Sprite has been worth the money spent.

That's good to hear! I've never tried doing the backup via the PC though, I've never liked the idea because ActiveSync is left open when you're backing up (in theory), but backing up to a larger CF card or MicroDrive works great!

The version of Active Sync i'm using is 3.7[Build3083] and the PC is running WindowsXP Pro with the SP2 installed. Never had a problem with that version of Active Sync. The total backup is 152Mb and takes about 2min 50 secs.

Really ? I've never seen 152mb come down from Pocket PC to PC or vice versa that quick before. Are you sure it's backing up 152mb and it has backed that up to the PC ?

Ok, just deleted everything off the SD card and done a hard reset. Ran Sprite PCAgent Restore, checked restore file size on drive M in sprites backup directory 148 Mb. Restore time 3.04min.
Reset Xda and all back as it was including everything on the SD card.
The PC is a self built tower with external drive box, Dual AMD Aphlon 64 3800 processors and 4Gb of memory, 6x120Gb HDs, DVD Rewriter, CD Rewriter, 3 port Card reader. On a 1Mb Broadband via a 4 port Router. Networked to another PC and 2 Laptops.

You brave man, not many would attempt this even though they think their backups work! Wink

I did a backup and restore but 40mb took me around 9 mins but that was running it from MicroDrive. Doing it over the PC connection it took me about 20 mins over USB.

Not much point doing backups if you can't restore and you'll only know if it works by trying it. Bit late when you really need it and find it doen't work.
Bye the way the XDA's cradle in not USB but a high speed serial connection on Com 1.

From here. If you have a qualifying iPAQ you get the upgrade at a better price, too.

Yes. This allows you to back up to your PC if you want to, plus you get a couple of extra progs.

Basic Mode and Advanced Mode

Sprite Backup can operate in two different modes - Basic Mode and Advance Mode. The first time you run Sprite Backup, it will be in Basic Mode. To switch between the modes, select the Options menu, then select either Switch to Basic Mode or Switch to Advanced Mode.

Basic Mode

Basic Mode is the default mode, and presents a straightforward interface for you to make backups with the minimum of effort. The Basic Mode screen displays the date and time that your last backup was created, and allows you to backup your entire Pocket PC with the tap of a button.

Advanced Mode

Advanced Mode is designed for users with more advanced backup requirements. As well as allowing you to schedule regular backups and enable automatic backup on low battery, advanced mode allows you to select which items to include and exclude from backups, enable encryption and compression, and enable the automatic maintenance of existing backup files.

Sprite Backup is a backup application and Sprite Backup Premium Edition complements it by adding two extra utilities and also a backup to PC or Network features.

Sprite Backup offers the following key features:

Fully automated schedule backups
A battery monitoring utility
The ability to perform selective backups and restores
Fast and simple backup operation
Sprite Backup Premium offers all the above features plus the following extras:

Backup to host PC or Network Share
Ability to initiate backup and restore operations from a PC
PocketMon a resource monitor for the TODAY screen
Space Detective storage analysis tool
