Dell X30 BT GPS - What software?

Hi

First off, great website!

I'm looking for a PDA GPS solution for my car & need UK & France maps. The Dell website shows an Axim X30 with BT receiver & s/w that includes UK & Euro maps. But what software does it use? Other Dell PDA's actually state TomTom but not this particular offering.

I've been reading lots of comments & reviews about various s/w solutions & they seem to vary quite a lot, I like the idea of 3D maps so TomTom 3 or CoPilot5 seem to be top of the list. The Dell price of £445 for a full setup with a top spec PDA, Euro maps, & BT looks good if the s/w is good also.

Q. So, what software comes with this package?

I'd appreciate knowledgable comments please.

Sorry, I usually assume that many website use scripts that mean you can't link directly to a page or the page changes so often, but as of this morning the device is at:

Looks like PrymeNav to me (or Socket - in any case, a Intellinav clone.)

Hi woosydiver,

I've got the X30 and purchased the Fortuna Clip-on BT receiver which came bundled with PrymeNav software Lutz mentioned above. For the bundle I paid approximately £175 including the optional next day delivery. The Fortuna clip-on is great, the PrymeNav software is reasonable considering the price you pay for it.

Good news though is PrymeNav have released an Upgrade to Western Europe package with updates to maps and software fixes. It is free to persons who have purchased the product bundle I described. I think the qualifying time period is something like 60 days either side of the upgrade release date. If you read their site you'll see your self. You could also ask the retailer I purchased it from do they ship it with the upgraded software.

I have paid $15 for shipping of the upgrade.

If you purchase this product for X30 from Dell or another retailer then you'll need to use Com7 not Com8 like the instructions tell you. Lesson learned after pulling my hair out for some time Laughing

Thanks for your comments. I phoned Dell today & was advised twice by different sales people that the s/w was TomTom. Somehow I didn't believe them but was going to order it anyway & just return it if they had misled me. But tonight I've done a little more research & found this:

This confirms what you guys said, although I like the spec of the PDA this has put me off somewhat. I'll probably stay clear & buy TomTom.

Hi All,

As posted elsewhere, the software is definetly NOT Tom Tom.

This is supplied as a package with a wired GPS reciever with the Dell Axim X5 and X3/X3i GPS solutions.

The software supplied with the Bluetooth GPS is Dell's own software called 'Dell Navigation' which I understand is a modified version of Prymenav.

However, Dell seem to be just as confused with this as everyone else as they sent me the Tom Tom + wired GPS package, convincing them they had sent the wrong one resulted in a conference call between myself, one of their customer service advisers and one of their technical support engineers - both of whom were in India!!

Needless to say this was hard work - so if you order the Axim X30 BT package - pre-warned is pre-armed!

BE AWARE!

The Dell BT bundle comes with European maps, right? - WRONG, if you actually look at the countries listed it does NOT come with France, Germany, & Greece. The covered countries are clearly listed on the Dell website but if you see a few Euro countries listed you assume that the major ones are included. I can't believe or understand why they choose to exclude these. Good thing I managed to cancel my order.
