Hi, I'm a complete newbie and have a problem. I've bought a new Compaq 3870, Fortuna Clip On, Tomtom outfit on eBay and some days it works perfectly but more often than not the system hangs while en route from departure to destination, sometimes as often as FIVE times during one trip of around 100 miles. Constantly stopping to reset the whole bundle is costing more time than Tomtom is saving me. I've managed to eliminate the fault as not being either the Compaq or the Fortuna hardware, the guy I bought them from has replaced both with sealed boxed units. Could the fault be in the memory card, a Mitekmedia 128mB with no markings whatsoever on the back, or is it more likely to be in the Tom tom installation. Sometimes I get error messages saying "Tomtom internal application error" or "no maps installed".
Also I can't install Activesync on my PC (Windows XP). When I click the install button nothing happens. What's wrong?

I'm also new to this lark. but I've had several weeks of messing about and frustration. I spent days struggling before I found this forum. BTW excellent site!
I tried to use my existing 3870, 128 SD, with a FCO, several issues. When it did work I also had drop outs, lock ups, application errors, no maps installed, and also couldnt maintain a BT connection. Never resolved the why......
BTW, what OS is on your iPAQ, 2002 or 2003? See other postings re patches and GPS SW versions.
I now have a 2210, 2003, latest BT driver, same (latest) TomTom, traffic etc..... initially using the same 128 SD card, same BT GPS, no issues other than my own stupidity! Now upgraded it to a 512 SD, still works great.
There are many references in the forum to SD card issues. TomTom support told me to use a fast SD card (whatever fast is). Moderator advice in this forum was to use a CF card, you can in a iPAQ 2210. I've also seen postings that 'suggest' that the country of origin, can affect the quality and therefore the reliability of the card.
Both the old 128 SD and the new 512 SD were a none recommended version card. and both work reliably on the 2210. _________________ Fraserp TomTom 1000

Hi Fraser, thanks for the reply. My operating system is on the back of the 3870 as "PC 2002 Premium" and in the asset viewer as "Windows CE 3.0"
If necessary I can easily have it upgraded to PC2003 Permium.
