A Rare Look at the CamerAlert Photo Submissions

The majority of our submissions for new cameras come from our CamerAlert app for iPhone, iPad and Android. The app allows users to submit a photo and a voice note to aid with verification of the submission and, in general, these are very helpful. We do, however, get some not-so-helpful ones...

Up until now access to these photos has been to a select few but as it's the end of the year and time to celebrate that the world didn't end (no surprise there...) then we thought we would share some of the helpful images with you and also some of the not-so-helpful ones. A few of them were deemed unsuitable to publish onb a family-friendly website though...

I assume all those people gave their permission for their photos to be posted online?

Yes, by using the app and submitting them to us they agree to our privacy policy which, very helpfully, also states:

Unless you're 100% certain they're all self portraits I really don't think you should be putting pictures of people up on your website. Just because your privacy policy says don't provide the info doesn't mean you have to upload them.

Honestly, uploading pictures of 3rd parties without their knowledge or permission is really poor.

I will admit to sending one of them in sorry :-(

I am the one wearing the grey high voltage equipment with rubber gloves.

That sounds like a very dangerous slippery slope to me.

Does a newspaper have to gain explicit consent from everyone before printing a photo of them taken in a public place?

But it is slightly different to the newspaper analogy as the submitters have presumably sent in the photos in error. I'm certain that Mr. HV man above didn't mean to send the photo of himself looking like something that has just been struck by lightning and might be also keeping bees in his spare time. Perhaps they should have, as the SAS man on Top Gear has, a pixellated face Very Happy Very Happy

Happy New Year everyone, thanks for a good laugh , I personally don't know, or want to know, any persons , living or ficticious in the aforementioned submission. Laughing Out Loud

I found the article very well written , and a useful insight into the work of running PGPS .

I suppose every photo taken by a hidden roadside digital camera has the express permission to be uploaded to the police database as well ....get a Life and drive safely .
