|
|
I bought an in car unit from e-bay to replace my old radio cassette in my car, its a touch screen does everything and came with Route 66 sat nav software that works just fine except its a bit dated now.
The sat nav works off a 2Gb SD card and Im sure its a Win CE based product.
My question is can I either update the card and Route 66 or decide to change the programme to Garmin or TomTom and if so how and which products?
The Garmin on my Nokia N95 8Gb works fine is it possible to get this on an SD card for my car?
Any help would be a great help - Thanks Roland |

Welcome to the forum, is it one like This - If so you can add Speed Cameras and voice warnings to it as I have already done this.
Follow the guide for Route 66 Speed Camera installation written up on This Page (I had to follow my own instructions the other week to do this as I had forgotten what to do
As for another application on the unit I dare say it can be done but as yet I have not tried - Perhaps this is something I should try over the weekend as I have newer versions of software with spare activation codes, the trick is getting everything needed installed to the SD card, I might start with McGuider as thats locked to the memory card, the newer version of Route 66 is a waste of time though as it doesn't do speed camera warnings for third party POI - Mike |

Hi
Yes I've downloaded all the files and warnings etc (voice alerts too) I'd be curious to know how you get on with a new application like Garmin or TomTom...thanks |

Firstly I have moved this from the Route 66 forum section as its better placed in this section (the unit isn't Route 66 specific).
Secondly I must appologise for the quality of some of the pictures below, they are far from my usual standard but the lighting/ autofocus doesn't lend itself to good pictures of the head unit powered up. There should be enough information here though to get you going modifying the deck.
Here we are with the deck running the standard Route 66 application as supplied:
Press the screen angle control button for a few seconds so the whole screen goes to the fully open position and pop out the righthand SD card.
The application gets a bit upset when you do this but simply ignore whats on screen, don't even bother to close the warning box down.
Put the new SD card in to the device (note the cards are fitted with the gold contacts uppermost).
Route 66 now gets rather annoyed but again simply ignore this.
You need to get to this screen, on my unit after a few seconds it appeared of its own accord, the menu on these devices is far from intuative, I think this screen only comes up after you insert a different memory card, I couldn't find any way to access this screen via the touch screen or remote.
You need to press the "Settings" icon on the screen which is furthest to the right.
Now tap the "NaviSettings" icon on the screen (Top Right)
Here you will find the file path to the navigation program exe file, for Route 66 it reads as follows: \SDMMC\ROUTE66N7.exe
You need to change this so it reflects the new Navigation file exe on the memory card, tap the folder icon to the right of the address bar.
It does help if you know where the new exe file is located, in this case as its McGuider I am installing I select "SDMMC"
Followed by the "Drive" folder
Finally select the application exe file "Drive.exe"
The file path now reads "SDMMC\Drive\Drive.exe"
Use the back arrows to come out of the set up screens and return to the main menu, press the furthest Left icon to start the navigation application.
The McGuider application will start up and go through a few questions about country of use/ voice selection before automatically setting up the GPS port and speed.
Hit the "I Agree" button on the nag screen and you are good to go
On the map you get road name and house numbers displayed which can be quite handy at times
The GPS position fix isn't bad considering the GPS aerial is located under the dash in my car, I didn't want it in the cab of the car with even more wires on show, considering where it is reception is very good.
The actual version I have installed is from last year, but the same principles and method would be used to set any Nav software up on the device
A planned route summary screen.
Navigation screen in use set to 3D mode, note the big 30 in a circle is the road speed limit, speed cameras are supported by this application as well.
Hope that gets you up and running, have fun - Mike |

I've got TomTom running on my unit :-). With mine on the SD Card there is a file called HBS.txt which tells the device which application to run. The file needs to be read only.
My unit is a Caska unit: http://www.coagent.cn/view_pro.php?id=44. Also known as Phantom in Russia, Polaris in Australia, Zulex in Thailand and DSS in Spain.
I've even got into the WinCE desktop on this thing. Will have to put some Pictures up at some point. |

Don't mean to dig up an old thread but I've had a lot of PMs on the subject of these units and TomTom. TomTom does work! My unit is running TomTom 7 on WinCE 4.2 (yes I know it is not meant to work... but there are ways and means!).
Also, installed a freeview box in the boot. TV reception is crap... Don't bother =]!

I am guessing theoretically you could transfer your TOMTOM license onto this device as it is wince 5? Assuming you can ever get through to the TOMTOM helpline to activate it, I know I have had problems in the past. _________________ o2 XDA Stellar
