Russia Readies Next Glonoss Satellite

The next navigation satellite launch will be that of a Russian Glonass-M spacecraft on Saturday June 14th. The Glonass satellite designated #755 will be launched on top of a Soyuz 2-1B rocket from the Plesetsk Cosmodrome in Eastern Russia. The Plesetsk Cosmodrome is used to launch the majority of the Russian military spacecraft.
Just like the US Navstar GPS constellation the Russian Glonass satellites are reaching the end of their operational life and are needing to be replaced. The failure of two Proton launches carrying 6 replacement satellite has pushed the ageing constellation to the limits. This is now being addressed by the launch of 6 spacecraft this year. One was already successfully launched in March and a further three will be deployed from a single Proton-M rocket. The final satellite of the year will be a new generation Glonass-K2.
There will not be any live coverage of the launch as this is designated a Russian military mission and these are always subject to a news blackout.
