Shared Ownership Village Speed Units
Date: Sunday, March 02 @ 07:29:11 UTC
A single "speed camera" is being shared by three separate Leicestershire villages under a new initiative to encourage drivers to slow down.

Though it is not really a speed camera in the true sense of the word, the unit flashes up the vehicle's speed and records its speed anonymously. It does not ticket or fine motorists.

The equipment, and the data derived from it, will be shared by the villages of Peatling Parva, Dunton Bassett and Ashby Magna.

A permanent mounting post is in pace in all three locations and the data will be forwarded to Leicestershire County Council with the intention of helping future traffic decisions in the area. It will be interesting to see if real speed cameras will eventually be used in the area as a result.

It was set up with the help of a local business who contributed 1,600, a third of the cost. Following a suggestion to them by a local resident, Bruntingthorpe Proving Ground (a vehicle testing and development facility), thought it was a good idea and donated the money.
