Love it or hate it, Google Glass is a very different take on wearable technology. With one of the features of the device being navigation it is perhaps not surprising that the North American arm of Mercedes-Benz is looking closely at how thy can integrate their car navigation systems with the headset.

BizJournals.com have been given a tour of the workshops at Mercedes-Benz Research & Development North America (MBRDNA), in Palo Alto, California and were shown their work on Google Glass.

The ultimate aim is to create a solution that allows you to have navigation in pedestrian mode using Google Glass and then seamlessly transition to driving directions as you enter your Mercedes car.

It's an interesting idea, but one that may need some more consideration given the news this week that one US driver was given a ticket for “Driving w/ monitor visible to driver (Google Glass)” by a San Diego police officer.

The technology is so new that the legal position for drivers who use Google Glass has yet to be clarified.
