Average speed cameras might not be installed on some stretches of the A9 in Scotland after all.

It was already proposed that average speed cameras were to be installed on the single carriageway sections preceding the dualling of the A9, but following a recent meeting with Free Church leaders in the Scottish Parliament, Scottish government's Transport Secretary Keith Brown said that discussions would now take place about whether there was really a need to also use cameras on parts of the A9 that are already dual carriageway.

Church delegation member, The Rev Alasdair Macleod commented, "In our eyes, average speed cameras over a 136-mile stretch with a 40mph restriction, in many parts for HGVs, will lead to more frustration, more accidents and more funerals."
