If you drive on Scottish roads then you'll need to take even more care than usual as their speed cameras are being upgraded from wet film to digital operation.

The Scottish Government has approved a £2.4m spend to upgrade all fixed road-side speed cameras to digital and connect them to speed camera partnership offices. The upgrade will remove the need for cameras to be visited and film removed for processing.

As with the current system, not every cameras will be live, the digital cameras units will be rotated around the network with the number of dummy cameras remaining the same. But, unlike the current system where live cameras may be inoperative having used up all the film available, the digitally cameras will not be constrained by lack of film.

The upgrade also adds the ability to monitor them 24hrs a day to detect faults or interference.
