Irish Police Chief: Speed Cameras Reduce Road Deaths

pocketgpsworld.comThe Irish Times has reported that John Twomey, an assistant Commissioner of the Irish police force, has announced that the number of people who lost their lives in road accidents after speed cameras were recently installed was just 8 compared to 37 for the same period last year. The period covered was November 16 to December 13.

He attributed the decline to the installation of new speed cameras. The new network is made up of mobile speed cameras covering approximately 600 areas throughout Ireland.

Twomey announced the data during the launch of the road safety campaign for the Christmas season and also confirmed that the number of people who suffered extensive injuries had also declined from 53 to 19.
