pocketgpsworld.com Fact or Fiction is the title they use and it would appear that 'Fiction' is the answer to at least one of the questions posed on the safe speed for life website.

They claim that "Passive tracking devices register the sped limit and warn you when to slow down, but their camera locations are often out of date."

Well I don't know what exhaustive tests they carried out before drawing that half baked conclusion but clearly they weren't using our database!

An interesting item on speed cameras was also aired on BBC2's The Daily Politics Show on Wednesday. Mark Field, MP for London & Westminster shares the opinion of many of us that speed cameras are in there simply to raise revenue.

In contrast most of us sure support the increased use of ANPR, the systems that read number plates and which can highlight many traffic offences. Yet another news item last night revealed that Dorset Police who use it in their traffic cars are so under manned that they were unable to act on the majority of 'hits' from their systems and so many serious offences were not dealt with!

The reasons are clear of course. Speed cameras make money, they are relatively cheap to implement and cover their costs very quickly. Police Officers are expensive and catching uninsured, unlicensed drivers in dangerous un-tested vehicles does not add money to the coffers.
