Vodafone snaps up Wayfinder for $30m

pocketgpsworld.com The world may be entering a recession but Vodafone, the UK based mobile network operator has money to spend as it makes a $30 million play for Swedish navigation specialist Wayfinder.

Wayfinder specialise in 'off-board' navigation solutions which retrieve maps from a remote server via a mobile internet connections as required. The software is deployed on around two million handsets manufactured by Sony Ericsson, Nokia and Blackberry and they have a number of mobile network operators as customers including O2, AT&T, Orange and Vodafone.

The benefits of having their own in-house navigation platform are easy to appreciate and a custom branded solution opens the door to many possibilities including location aware products, social networking and other advertising opportunities.

Vodafone is the worlds largest telecoms company with operations in 28 countries world-wide.
