pocketgpsworld.com deCarta, a US based software and services supplier for the Location Based Services industry (LBS) have announced the launch of their application programming interface (API) deCarta Mobile that supports the iPhone.

The new API complements their existing J2ME version announced in September. deCarta Mobile is a location aware platform that is designed to simplify the integration of sophisticated location aware capabilities on mobile devices.

LBS is the big buzz word with manufacturers and developers hoping for massive growth in this area. By their very nature, LBS applications work best with 'connected' devices, ie. those that can access external data sources to complement or supplement pre-installed data such as POIs, Addresses, guides etc and so mobile phones such as the iPhone are ideal platforms with their built-in WiFi and GSM services as well as GPS.

deCarta Mobile for J2ME and iPhone will be available at deCarta's new devZone mobile.decarta.com on October 31st.
