Galileo: Giove-B Go For Launch

pocketgpsworld.com Giove-B, the second Galileo demonstrator has received the go for launch. The Soyuz launch vehicle was transferred yesterday to the launch pad at the Baikonur Cosmodrome in Kazahstan.

The Giove-B satellite will be boosted by Starsem, Arianespace’s affiliate, for the European Space Agency (ESA) with the launch scheduled to occur on Saturday, April 26 at 10:16 p.m. UTC.

• 04:16 a.m. (Baikonur time) on April 27
• 02:16 a.m. (Moscow time) on April 27
• 00:16 a.m. (Paris time) on April 27


Giove-B is designed to test key technologies including the most advanced atomic clock ever to be put into orbit. Atomic clocks are integral to GPS Satellite systems and better timing brings more accurate positioning. Galileo has been designed to offer greatly increased positional accuracy under much tougher reception conditions and it is also planned to offer chargeable services for commercial users as well as a specific search and rescue function.
