News: Engineers Propose Budget UK GPS System

pocketgpsworld.com
With our exit from the EU and the loss of access to the more accurate and encrypted military grade signal features of Galileo calls have verb made for the UK to develop our own satellite network. But with costs estimated at more than £9bn it's unlikely to ever be feasible.

Now engineers have proposed a cheaper alternative that would cost a fraction of that at around £300m whilst still meeting our requirements for defence and emergency services.

The proposal involves launching three satellites which would be deployed to augment the basic Galileo signal which we will still have access to. This Satellite-based Augmentation System (SBAS) would provide 5cm positional accuracy with global coverage except for the polar regions.
