News: Arianespace readies launcher for November Galileo mission

pocketgpsworld.com
The first Ariane 5 launcher to orbit Galileo navigation satellites is being readied ahead of the November 17th launch. This follows seven that utilised the medium-lift Soyuz launcher.

Flight VA233 will use an Ariane 5 heavy lift launch vehicle. This is powered by a Vulcain 2 main engine and two side mounted solid rocket boosters. Flight VA233 will carry four Galileo satellites to a medium-Earth orbit ready for deployment.

The Galileo satellites were build by OHB Systems in Bremen, Germany with navigation payloads supplied by Surrey Satellite Technology. Airbus Defence and Space developed the dispenser system that will carry and deploy the satellites.
