News: TomTom extends TomTom City coverage

TomTom announce additional city coverage for the online TomTom City system. For the UK this now adds Manchester and Glasgow to the existing coverage for London. Altogether 25 new cities have been added worldwide bringing the total coverage to 50.

The data feeding the online traffic portal is provided by the croudsourcing of over 450 million devices which feed back live information to the TomTom servers. This is the same data that is used by TomTom Traffic on your iPhones and SatNav devices. TomTom's aim is to use this information to assist road users find optimal routes through the congested roads.

TomTom City is available free on any internet enabled browser. The map produced can be zoomed into and the traffic flow, incidents and delays can be individually filtered. This is not much use for people actually driving but is a good tool to use to plan a trip, or just check where the bottlenecks are.
