News: North Korea is jamming GPS signals - again

pocketgpsworld.com
Ah North Korea, the hermit kingdom, so rarely out of the news lately what with US tourists locked up, Nuclear weapons programs, ballistic missile launches and vows to launch nuclear attacks on Washington DC.

Now the embittered state is once again up to no good, this time provoking its South Korean neighbour by jamming GPS signals along the demilitarised zone that separates the two countries.

Government officials have reported that jamming began in late March and is affecting aviation navigation systems, shipping and even cell phone base stations. Whilst officials report that nearly 1,000 flights have been affected none has lead to any safety issue as they can fallback to Inertial Navigation Systems (INS) which is jam-proof.

We've reported on jamming operations before with this being the fourth since 2010. With the South Korean capital, Seoul, less than 30-miles from the border it is well within range of the jamming activities which are reported to be using Russian truck mounted jamming hardware with a range of 30 - 60 miles.
