News: China launches two more BeiDou satellites

pocketgpsworld.com
China launched a further two BeiDou satellites atop its long March 3B rocket yesterday.

BeiDou (also known as COMPASS) is China's own global navigation system and is currently under construction. Ultimately there will be a constellation of 35 satellites in orbit but the system began operations with a limited regional coverage in 2011. The 17 satellites already in orbit offer a service to users in the Asia-Pacific region with global coverage expected towards 2020.

BeiDou has two levels of service, a restricted military service with accuracy of 10 cm, and a public service with 10 meter accuracy. There are already GPS receivers available with multiple support for GPS, GLONASS, Galileo, and BeiDou support.
