Delta GPS 2R-12 Satellite Launched Successfully

Boeing's Delta 2 rocket with the U.S. Air Force's GPS 2R-12 GPS Navigation Satellite launched successfully from Cape Canaveral, Florida 2325hrs GMT last night.

Preliminary data indicated the satellite had launched into it's planned orbit. The spacecraft will use its onboard motor to circularize the orbit at 11,000 miles and raise the inclination to 55 degrees to join the other satellites in the GPS constellation.

This marks the 111th successful Delta 2 rocket launch out of 113 flights since 1989 and extends the string of consecutive successes to 58 dating back to 1997. It was the third Delta launch in 2004.
