News: 305 Redundant Cameras Left In Limbo

pocketgpsworld.com
The Express and Star have reported that the fate of 305 redundant speed cameras in the West Midlands is the subject of debate.

Apparently the decision is to spend £489,000 to upgrade some of the currently empty cased, wet-film speed camera to digital technology or pay £178,000 to have them removed altogether.

The region's councils' speed cameras budget was reduced by £750,000 in 2011. This left West Midlands Police to have to find the remaining £1m bill.

The decision was then made last year to switch to mobile cameras and they increased the fleet of mobile camera vans from two to four.
