News: Next Generation GPS Satellite Coming Soon

A $5.5 billion GPS Satellite is soon to be tested at a Lockheed Martin complex in Colorado.

The new satellite upgrade promises to increase accuracy and reliability across GPS systems.

The GPS system promises to be so accurate that it can pinpoint a position to within three feet (currently approximately 10 feet). But crucially as GPS looks set to become more prevalent in the years to come, particularly when used by the likes of Google for indoor mapping, the new GPS system promises to be far more reliable too.

One of the common gripes made against GPS is that it can sometimes fail to work properly in busy, built-up areas, or when connection to a satellite is blocked - such as when used indoors or even in heavily wooded areas.
