News: TomTom Codename: DUBLIN - The AVN4430 Breaks Cover

pocketgpsworld.com Last month we reported here on Fujitsu's AVN4430, a Double-DIN head-unit that incorporated a pop-out TomTom sat-nav. Very little was known of the device at the time and I speculated that it might be based upon an x40.

Well the FCC Test Documents are now available and these give a little more insight into the unit itself which we can now call DUBLIN (the name stamped on the circuit board) which rolls off the tongue easier than AVN4430!

Sadly DUBLIN is not an x40 on the inside, instead it appears to be a re-jigged x20/x30 design and so TMC Data is supplied either via RDS-FM or via a BT connected GPRS cell-phone and a subscription to TomTom's TRAFFIC Subscription service.

On the plus side, it appears that the design might have allowed for use in another vehicle away from it's head-unit as the rear dock connector's have a cover and the GPS antenna is internal to the device.
