|
|
I have been trying to update the maps in my VW TROC
The Sat Nav is the DISCOVER MEDIA (can just about identify from the poor quality image on their website :-(
I have followed the instructions and extracted the files from the .tar file to a CF card.
It is supposed to start updating when I turn on the ignition, I get "Navigational Database No Available".
Any suggestions about what I am doing wrong? |

Hi,
What year is your car. If it’s the discovery media system do you have the sd card in the glovebox?
Vw have done away with the sd card for the newer mib3 unit and it only updates the nav over the air. Prior to mib3 (2021 and earlier) vw discovery units had the sd card to update the map.
If you have the sd card version you just download the new map data from vw website. You have to put the data onto the original vw sd card as it has a security (cid) signature that mates the card to the head unit.
Post some more info on your setup and I might be able to help. |

It is DISCOVER MEDIA but is the older MIB2.
I have getting advice from people on a VW TROC forum but no luck. I had bought an update previously so had a spare VW card but not been able to update that.
I think I think will just have to buy an update but will wait until I have any long journeys planned.
Very unimpressed with VW's system.
Whose maps do they use, is it possible to submit corrections? I sometime set the Sat Nav just to get the ETA but it always tried to direct me up a back street near home which I obviously ignore but would be nice to get that corrected along with a few other mapping errors or at least navigational errors. |

Updating your maps is genuinely really easy if your on mib2 and have the original sd card.
Here is the link to the vw download site:
https://app-connect.volkswagen.com/mapupdates/en/car/#/
Pick your vehicle, then the model year, then the head unit and select a map bundle to download. If your in the uk I’d suggest bundle 2. That will download the map data in a zip file. Unzip it and then put your original sd card into your pc and copy the unzipped files onto the sd. card, effectively overwriting the map folder on the card with the new map folder.
That’s it, put the card back into the head unit in the car and you’ll have the new maps loaded.
Where are you located, I’ve assumed the uk, but if not then you would select the region that you want, eg, Eastern Europe etc. |
