I wish I could attach a photo. I have a dark blue usb device that says USB G.P.S. on it. It's about 3" x 1" and it has a chip inside that says RoyalTek on it, as well as some other stuff that I can't read except under RoyalTek it looks like it says REG. The dark blue cover is semi-transparent, so it's difficult to read. I'd like to know exactly what this device is, what it does, and how I can use it, if at all. I assume a driver is needed, but I don't know which one. Any replies appreciated.

Possibly a USB-powered GPS receiver. I suspect it would have been designed for use with an old PDA or pocket PC so you could run navigation software on it.

I was thinking similar.

I've an old Microsoft USB GPS receiver that came with an Autoroute version.

Thanks for the replies. I eventually found some references to it. Looks like it should interact with PC software that looks for it on COM8. I got it to work with some telescope software, but it took so long that it's not really useful. Maybe I'll find a way to speed it up.

If it's not been used for years then it would take longer to get an initial fix to find the satellite.

Try it again to see if it's as slow - it could just be that because it's older that it's just not as sensitive.
