A motorcyclist has been fined for covering his number plate whilst passing a speed camera near Settle, in North Yorkshire.

He was travelling at almost 90mph when the device captured an image of him - he was leaning back and covering his registration plate with his gloved hand. The limit was 60mph.

Bradford crown court heard that 43 year old Robert Went from Lancashire covered the plate as he sped by a police van.

He was handed a fine of £2,285 and given 240 hours of supervised work.

Commenting on the case, traffic constable Andrew Forth said: "This is the third motorcyclist successfully prosecuted by the force for this type of offence. This is on the increase but it will not be tolerated."
