If it's disconnecting then two thoughts. Did you fully charge it before attempting anything? USB ports generally won't keep up so if the battery is pretty flat that can cause issues. Second thought, ensure your USB ports aren't going to sleep.

It will until it gets a proper GPS lock, once it has it should only start with the Warning screen ...

As for the error, check through this FAQ https://support.garmin.com/en-US/?faq=GuclsqmdI02dC0ULxHR2T6&searchType=noProduct

Anything else plugged into USB, a few Garmins seem very particular about that, mine throws a wobbler if my phone is connected.

In that screenshot it says "Not Connected" = change USB cables or try another USB port.

And, a bit more complicated, but check Windows Device Manager so ensure that the USB port isn't set to 'Allow Windows to put this port to sleep'.
That setting is under the USB ports at the bottom of Device Manager. I always go through each one and turn that setting off.

Thanks for the tips, slept on it and this morning loaded up my trusty USB device viewer https://www.nirsoft.net/utils/usb_devices_view.html

It showed the Garmin coming up us an unknown device and repeatedly connecting and disconnecting, so Mass storage driver wasn't installing and windows wasn't picking up any vendor info.

Uninstalled lots of other no longer used connections too, but same result.

Uninstalled every piece of Garmin software installed including USB drivers, went through system directories and deleted all Garmin folders, rebooted the computer.

Finally the DS61 USB drivers install and it pops up green, installed Garmin Express and it sees it straight away which naturally it didn't yesterday. So just downloading map to the computer with basecamp and check its all seeing each other.

Corrupt map issue on the unit I just hit restore and it got rid of that error message, Garmin express is reporting the device and map up to date. I think once all is stable I will reinstall the map to the device for piece of mind.

Relieved it seems to be okay.

Thanks for all the hints and tips its my 6th Garmin device, you would have thought by now I would have learnt its not easy ;)

Then onto the Speed database and settings Shocked Laughing

The last three have been a mare, so it was probably all the legacy stuff I had installed over the years, I do try to make thinks last, the Zumo is 8 years old and the Nuvi before that was a lot older. Will try the Oregon now Very Happy

My CSV Converter has a utility to find all the stuff Garmin leaves behind and allows you locate and get rid of it.

With the map updates it can be many Gb if not kept under control:

Great stuff, gave it a try, I must have hit it all manually, nothing excessive left.

Does this do the same as Ash's utility did? Haven't that in ages as the Zumo just refused to cooperate.

I must be stupid, which database do I download to get the correct sound files? Just going around in circles here, I am sure when its all setup it makes sense, but its been a few years since I messed with this stuff.

I think it does almost the same as Ash's and has additional features included, from requests.

There is only one version and it's free, no demanding payment for extra features. It was a pleasure to do. Been here for over 6 years and seems to now be very stable. Not had any bug reports for ages, maybe last Feb 18, just feature requests.

There is also a sister 'Direction Converter' program if you want to be told what direction the camera is trapping.

Full details and instructions of both programs in the download packages.

If you've installed the CSV to GPX converter, the sound files are in the installation package and just need copying to your working directory. Also put the sox.exe in PoiLoader's program folder as described in the installation instructions.

If you want more sound files to choose from, check out the PGPSW speed camera download page, select garmin poiloader sat nav system and choose your voice selection from the wav options (not mp3) and get sox.exe as mentioned above.

Dales.
