A new (to me) camera type is appearing at various locations around Lincolnshire, similar to the example below (the objects on the tall pole):
They are said to be digital cameras recording speed at a single location but in both directions. They look like average speed cameras but cannot be because there is no second camera in the area.
Picture taken from news article here:https://www.spaldingtoday.co.uk/news/spalding-s-new-digital-camera-will-catch-speeders-in-an-instant-1-8489629
Does anyone know who makes them or any more details about them? _________________ Paul |

What other details were you looking for. Is there not enough in the 'Spalding Today' article? |

The average speed cameras in Hastings have separate illuminators just down the road a bit. Like This |

Looking at the closeup below there is a Batman logo at the top of the pole and the camera looks just like a Specs Vector average speed camera:
However I have never heard of these cameras being used as a fixed camera rather than an average speed camera as stated in the press article. I have had a good ride around and can't locate a second camera, also the road layout doesn't lend itself to average speed checking as there are loads of junctions within a short distance of the camera location.
I still wonder how it is getting a vehicle speed. There are induction loops in the road but these were in position for the existing Truvelo and the new camera seems to be aimed much further along the road than the induction loop position. _________________ Paul |

That's a serious close up Paul. The right hand one deffo looks like a LED illumination array. |

I agree.
So where its bedmate. Is it on a stretch of road that would qualify for an average speed zone?
Round me (A40, A316, A406, M4) they changed the roadsigns from just a camera picture to have 'average speed zone' on them. _________________ Satnav:

It has no bedmate it is a lone camera on totally unsuitable road for average speed cameras. It has been in place for several weeks now and no second camera has appeared.
I think that the item on the left is a radar unit. Jenoptik, the makers, have a news article about installing radar units on specs cameras in Australia so that they can do spot speed checks at each average speed camera position. There are not many photos of the radar unit but the few that are available show a square item with a silver metal frame (the housing is different to the one above). The article mentioned applying for Home Office Type Approval to use the radar device in the UK.
This appears to be a fixed speed camera covering both lanes (two directions). The radar could trigger the ANPR camera which connects back to base with the photos and the ticket is on its way. The specification sheet for the camera mentions that the optimum detection point is 25 to 30 metres from the camera (potentially ahead of the camera depending on your direction of travel).

So presumably the Truvelo is now obsolete, may be removed, and all you need to do is report the change to a reversible Monitron.
I like reporting changes from Gatso to Monitron because it shows that the old wet film camera has been replaced and is now more than likely active. _________________ Satnav:

Agreed, I'll report it as a change when they remove the Truvelo.
We are likely to get some confusing reports if a batman logo can now appear on fixed speed cameras. _________________ Paul |

Is it worth FOI request to your local council / safety camera partnership asking how the camera works, is it an average speed, is it active, if it's average then what area does it cover and where are the other cameras?
Or maybe just email them directly? |

Wow, that was quick!
Lincolnshire Road Safety Partnership have replied to my email to say that "It is part of the digital upgrade ... It is a fixed spot camera however, this new camera takes approaching and receding offences."
"The old camera will be taken out in due course."
So we do have a new type of fixed camera with the batman logo on it. _________________ Paul |
