I wonder out of all these fines, how many of the are caused by foreign registered vehicles, who are not pursued for payment? I also wonder if they do monitor when the speed limits aren't lowered, as it certainly doesn't seem to affect some of the drivers on the M1/ M25!

The not-so Smart M'way cameras are 'always on', either at the NSL or the VSL to the best of my knowledge. I've certainly seen them flash even when the VSL is not operating.

I drive the M4 roadworks section, J3 to J10, and back, weekly.

There are a high number of drivers who think the Specs are Gatso and brake for them then zoom off after.
There are also a small number who ignore them and I estimate are still doing ~70.

But, the biggest number are doing about 60.

I drive, or rather cruise control drives at true 50 as indicated on my Garmin and Speedtrap Alert and that reads as 53 on my car speedo.

I've often wondered if they are getting fined or whether they know something I don't.

Like you I use cruise at the gps-indicated limit in average zones. I think there is probably the same 10%+2mph allowance of most cam sites but do I really want to prove that theory?

A lot of truck UK drivers seem to be stuck on their 56mph limiters. So I suspect the 10%+2 is OK

Calibrated speed camera accuracy is 2% by itself. So, there are at least 3 points where the error might be added: tachometer, camera, added percentage + 2 mph.

Contributory factor for mechanical car speedos is wheel status. Wrong inflation changes the profile.

And I wellm remember a case where a clever lad got himself some super new wheels, posh larger ones and soon was fined for speeding (because his speedometer didn't know about the larger wheel being the equivalent of a go-faster stripe).

Lariliss may I suggest you just read ancient topics rather than resurrect them long after the event. Or create new ones.

I've dived into reading further, 'ancient' ones, thank you for amendments.
Please make an excuse for a newcomer. The subject transforms here really.
This subject is polarizing as every new implementation with for sure real life testing and hopefully lessons to learn for safety sake.
Warn and educate mixed with taking fines in real implementation.
