The India Space Research Organisation (ISNRO) successfully launched their IRNSS-1I navigation satellite yesterday.

Launching from the Satish Dhawan Space Centre, Sriharikota in Andhra Pradesh atop the PSLV-C41 launch vehicle, IRNSS-1I is the eighth satellite in the IRNSS program. This launch marked the 43rd flight of the PSLV-C41. After a flight lasting 19 mins the 1425kg satellite reached its sub-geosynchronous orbit and separated from the PSLV.

IRNSS-1I is now the latest member of the Indian Regional Navigation Satellite System (IRNSS), an independent regional navigation satellite system designed to provide position information in and around the Indian mainland.

Bizarre.... A "3rd world" country can spend billions on space exploration and satellite launches for the worlds masses generally....Yet cannot find water that is drinkable in outlying areas, nor provide shelter for homeless in deprived areas and fails miserably at looking after their own people.... Amazing !

I don't think they "can't" find drinkable water or provide shelter for homeless - they simply DON'T do those things - it would reduce the amount they can spend on satellites and nuclear weapons. And anyway, we are paying for water drilling, homes and education, so why should they bother?
