hello, hoping someone can help me. My tom tom go 740 live has now been classed as obsolete, took them up on their offer to buy a new one at a discounted price. I oted for the Go 5200 with wi fi. I have a problem now how do I get gps on my new Tom Tom,. I did look at the video tutorials but they just come up blank, any help would be appreciated, have not changed over in 9 years so a bit rusty and am a techno phobe.

Many Thanks

Presumably by "how do I get gps on my new Tom Tom", you mean get the PGPSW speed camera alets working?
If so, it's not good news. One of the 'improvements' that TomTom have made over the last 9 years is to not allow third party POIs to work in the way that you need them to for speed camera alerts.
Having been a member since 2006, I'm surprised that you haven't picked up on that one.

The speed camera warnings from PGPSW still work just fine on Garmin satnavs.

If you bought your new TomTom on the internet, there may be still time to send it back unused for a full refund (except return postage).

Dales.

Quite understandable jamsie. There is a lot of tosh exchanged here, but some of it is useful now and again. Very Happy

Y’know what, jamsie, you have just joined the unhappy group of TomTom users who have succumbed to TT’s plans. That 740 was, and still is, a damn fine bit of kit. It will work as long as you want it to and work the PGPSW cameras too.

I don’t know how you have acted, but there are actually a helluva lot of TT owners out there who have very old devices which have never had an updated map. And guess what? They aren’t getting lost every day!!

Well said Dennis, I couldn't agree more.

My old GO 750 does everything I want it to and whilst I'd be happy to continue to run it with maps that were getting out of date, it was the live traffic services that were the killer for me. We travel through Europe a lot and the number of times I've been re-routed due to hold-ups is quite surprising.

Now I wonder. Several years ago TT throttled back the Live devices by limiting the Traffic horizon. They waffled around the reason, but we all knew it was because they couldn’t cope with the volume. So if they are now dumping all pre-Nav 4 devices, will they restore the unlimited Traffic horizon?

Why would they when they can obviously 'get away with' what you have now.

I also wonder if anybody buys their shares nowadays.
