After three failed installations, I eventually successfully installed by using the Win10 Admin account.

I also had difficulties unlocking the recent updated map 2020.1 for use with Basecamp. Again it was resolved by installing via the Admin account.

Maybe there are rights issues?

I wonder if 1903 has tightened Win10 security.

I must remember to upgrade my GE. I don't have it running in the background so it doesn't give me any messages.

I would be grateful for any advice.

I have an old Nuvi 360, sentimental value but works perfect as a backup device. It is a UK/Ireland maps version but I bought a lifetime Europe update which has always worked well but due to its limited memory I always download new maps to my PC and then install on memory card.

Coincidence perhaps but I have just installed v 6.15.0 and tried to update to map v2020.10. It will download UK/Ireland to device but I can't download any maps to PC. Express shows a red banner headline saying there is an error.

Any thoughts please?

How's your C:\ drive off for free space?

... and delete any C:/ProgramData/Garmin/CoreService stuff that you don't need any more.
This can provide over 10Gb of freed-up space.

Dales.

or ... shift all the Garmin stuff to a drive that has plenty of space :-

Code:

C:\˃mklink /d c:\programdata\Garmin d:\Applications\garmin\
symbolic link created for c:\programdata\Garmin <<===˃˃ d:\Applications\garmin\

17GB in my case Exclamation

(Any existing data has to be manually moved to the target location and the old c:\programdata\Garmin directory deleted)

The CSV Converter has a facility for checking and directing you to all Garmin downloads on your C:

It's quite revealing how much Garmin leave behind that unsuspecting users will have difficulty with as it just keeps on building.

Garmin must think everyone has multi Tb mechanical HDD's.

It seems a bit like the Apple iThing backups. They fill up your C:\ drive with crap as well with no easy way to redirect to a drive that has plenty of space.

This is of course particularly relevant for users who have a relatively small SSD as their C:\ drive.

This 'freeloading on the user's primary boot drive without an easy redirect is a really arrogant pi$$ poor bit of programming. But I suppose that they have to cater for the ignorant sheep that must have the latest iThing who wouldn't have the first idea of what we are banging on about.

Here am I calling 500Gb 'relatively small' when my firs HDD was 40Mb.

But GE could easily warn about old maps and offer to delete, thus clearing out Gb of redundant data from the user's boot drive.

Thanks for the replies.

I have 1TB hard drive with 800GB spare.

I was thinking maybe I will have to uninstall Express and reinstall. But before I do, depending on advice, I will try my 2598 and see if I get the same response. If so then it surely has to be a problem with Express?

Well, just connected my 2598 to PC and downloaded maps to Mapinstaller with no problems.

So with the 360, I have downloaded maps to device (within it's internal memory limit) but it will not download maps to PC. Just comes up with an error message.

So I guess no problem with Express?

Try saving any old file to C:/ProgramData/Garmin/CoreService to check that you have write permissions for that folder

I can't think why you're having this issue but concerned that you mention MapInstaller and your 2598, you really should be using Express to install maps to your 2598, not MapInstaller. It will only deal with the map side of things and not update the rest of your 2598, for example your junction view file won't be updated.
