It's been known for a while that the latest Hadecs3 cameras also send out NIP's for 71+

It's been over a decade since the law forced manufacturers to ensure that speedos over read so there is no excuse.

Perhaps you are not keeping up with stuff. A top cop wants motorists to be NIPed when 1MPH over the limit rather than the ACPO recommendation of 10% + 2MPH (Yes, two, not one or two) so it's 79MPH in a 70 zone and it's only a recomendation, forces do not have to abide by it so can issue NIPs at 71 if that's how they feel.
Kremmen's words are not at all misleading as if top cop has his way, NIPs will be regularly issued at 71MPH in a 70MPH limit.

But having said that, I wonder if the people who say that Hadecs 'issue' NIPS for 71+ MPH have any positive proof of that, or is it just another urban myth?
The Derbyshire link talks about top speed of 128MPH but does not say what the lowest excess speed was. So that article does not lend itself to 'prove' the case. All it says is that they will enforce the 70MPH (probably, at present. at 79MPH) limit as well as the slower 'smart' speeds when it has been assumed (again with no proof) that most gantry cameras only enforced the reduced 'smart' speed limit.

I always understood that the % allowance was a 'guideline' for traffic patrols.

Now that these Hadecs have proved to be super accurate some want them to enforce accurately.

With car speedos now over reading if you're caught doing a true 71 then your speedo is likely showing over 75 so you have no real excuse.

These recommendations and guidelines are the reason for all the arguments and bad blood over speeding.

You see a speed limit sign which says 30, so you tell yourself to drive at 35 and you'll still be ON the limit and free from NIP. So the argument revolves around whether or not you were exceeding the speed limit, or exceeding it by how much and whether the how much is the right amount.

Personally I have always considered the guidelines to be ridiculous - if the speed limit is 30, driving faster than that is punishable and there should be no argument about it. Zero tolerance, end of story. Driving at 30-ish is a laugh! The limit is 70mph, so don't drive any faster than that and don't come the arguments about it being safe to drive at 90 or 100 on a spiritually empty motorway, or to drive at 50 through a deserted village.

So let's drive INSIDE the posted speed limits.

And if you think that's too slow, get up a movement, petition, whatever, to get the government (or the local council) to change them to what you say the right limit should be. Surely it won't be difficult to persuade people if you're right?

You should know that to convince people that you are right and they are wrong is exceedingly difficult, even if you are right. Which in the case of the majority of speed limits, 'they' are right.
