So you can't simply copy across the files as OV2 files?

On long journeys I run the Garmin alongside TomTom GO Mobile on my iPhone. IMHO TomTom routing and Traffic is much better than the Garmin. However, if you need POIs then Garmin is the only answer.

TomTom GO Mobile iOS doesn’t even allow you to import custom POIs to navigate to unlike other TomTom products but I use a very good third part app (POIViewer) that allows me to load up custom POIs and even create new POIs and categories and then get GO to navigate to those POIs. It’s a work around.

For PGPSW camera warnings I run CamerAlert in the background.

There is no decent SatNav that can do everything. You need to decide which functionality is most important to you and which ones you can live without. It’s a matter of POIs vs routing and traffic. Only you can answer that. Or run a Garmin and a TomTom together! Wink

Regards,

Yes you can.

Follow the instructions here for the cameras.

Then do the same for your own POIs, browsing to the folder on your pc that contains them.

Thank you for that. The problem I seem to be running into is that it won't allow me to include any of the associated files (bmp).

Any ideas what I am doing wrong?

Nothing. They've dropped the ability to have your own icon with your POIs.

Poor Mercurial must be very confused now. Each Post is answering a previous Post that might be drifting away from his original question.

From Page 2 of this Topic.

The Via 135 was the last TT to accept 3rd party POIs/Cameras. If you are loyal enough to stick with TT, grab one while you can.
This suggests that Mercurial had purchased a Via 135, in which case Anita's reply of yesterday morning is correct - you can make use of fully functioning POIs.
So, in one fell swoop, TomTom has transformed a useful driving aid into a piece of junk. I have thousands of POIs so differentiating between them and being able to see the information represented accurately on the screen is vital.

It's going back!

Thank you everybody who has contributed to this. Much appreciated.

What exactly is happening when you upload the POIs? My Via 135 shows the icons.

It's telling me that only ov2 files can be uploaded. The icons (they're not TomTom generated), which are bmp format, won't upload.

Daft question I know, but bear with me. Are you actually following the PGPSW instructions, or are you trying to do this with TT Home or My Drive Connect?

Not at all a daft question.
I'm trying to do this with MyDrive Connect although the menu which appears doesn't include the option to connect to the Community thingy.

As well as being in touch with you guys, I'm trying to get an answer from TomTom. They seem to keep missing the point although what I've been told suggests that POIs will be uploaded as Favourites only which will render them close to useless.

Hang on, I think I've cracked it. It seems to have come down to an issue with right-clicking which, since I've been using a touchpad, has been a challenge (proper mouse control is due to be restored shortly).

So thanks to all on here who've helped and encouraged me to persevere.

And apologies if anybody thinks I've wasted time. It certainly wasn't the intention.

(It has to be said, drag and drop was so much easier.)

Glad you got there in the end, Mercurial, and I don't think you've wasted anyone's time.

Maybe someone who has the power to do so should make the "right-click" in the instructions bold, as it's an easy mistake to make..

The only time you've wasted has been your own when you contacted TomTom for help. They have absolutely no idea about it, they don't support it, they don't want you using anything except their own inferior stuff, so they have no idea how to deal with PGPSW and your own stuff. They have no interest in learning how to support somebody else's stuff so they won't train their staff to do it.

It goes back to their decision to stop allowing third party access to their more recent satnavs, because they were unable to come up with a solution to people pirating their stuff. In theory it makes business sense for them, but for savvy users like us, (and we do NOT like pirates either) it's a disaster area.

That's a good idea although it wasn't so much a matter of overlooking the right click procedure as using the touchpd and getting it to right click. It's a pain except for the simplest of tasks.

Actually, as it happens, a new mouse has just arrived and is up and running.

The balance of life (in a computer sense at least) has been restored!
