well it seems that garmin are still behind with road closures. a road has now been closed for two weeks with diversions in place, yet garmin still wants to route down it, so loaded up sygic on my mobile and that shows the road closure.

even looking on the garmin smartlink there is no indication that the road is closed

I've nearly always found Garmin digital traffic to be very good. On a couple of occasions it's had a road closed when it wasn't but never seen it miss one. I've had my Drive about a year now and traffic has only been wrong a few times.

Yes, have digital traffic, it showed the traffic delay for going around the road closure, but never showed the road closure itself. This was same for the smartlink app when I loaded that when got home.

Not sure how long road is closed for and there was no prior warnings to it going to be closed

update: just switched on my go 5000 which hasn't been on for nearly a year and that has picked up the road closure

my personal experience of both tomtom traffic and Garmin digital traffic is the tomtom gives the most accurate jam and closure information. garmin is not a bad system and better than tmc. its just not as good as the tomtom traffic.

with the garmins unlike the tomtom devices, you must have the specific power adaptor connected for traffic.

most of the time the traffic is fine on the garmin, it's the road closures.

While Garmin Traffic is generally very good, I've experienced lack of info about road closures. Both were long term - one was a bridge re-build following floods and the other was for a serious reconstruction of a hospital.

I've no idea why the bridge closure was not indicated- there were signs posts all around the area indicating closure and the diversion.

The second was more complex as the Garmin didn't have the closure in the correct location, sending the route re-calculation into a frenzy as I was driving towards it. I eventually managed to send Garmin the official notice from the Local Authority giving the exact location of the road closure. The road is still closed 2 years on and Garmin now shows is correctly. I'd like to think I had a hand in correcting it!

I receive the digital traffic via a smartphone and my experience is the Tomtom is more accurate at correctly pinpointing traffic congestion ant it's severity leading an accurate eta throughout the journey. The Garmin isn't bad just not as accurate.

There have been issues in Lincolnshire where roads have been subject to closure during certain times of the day and open at others. The road workers have been lazy and left the closed signs in place.

The reverse has been noted where that road is open although notified as closed.

You can beat garbage in/out

Does anyone know how to report road closures to Inrix? I can't find a way on their website or on their app.

I removed their app for a serious omission:

In an update about 2 years ago they decided to permanently activate tracking if they detected you were 'travelling'.

This tracking was extremely battery unfriendly and it almost flattened a 100% battery to 0% in about 4 hours because I didn't realise what was happening.

I only realised because the phone was in my top pocket and was becoming 'very' hot.

I was on a train so I was doing the activation speed but with no way of turning it off.

I reported it to Inrix who basically said 'tough'

I'm sure there was a way to report closures and re-opening of roads though, but, you had to be within striking distance. Trying to do it from home afterwards wouldn't work.

I also removed the Inrix app because it was permanently active and draining the battery. It was a battery usage app that helped me discover it was the Inrix app.
