Wondering if the Android app is ever going to get a new look? It is really looking dated and it is a shame because the database is generally excellent.

I think that they have been a bit busy recently in getting it working for the 'i' fanboys recently.
Just what would you do to make it look lass dated? If it works, don't fix it. That invariably breaks something that 'used to work'. It would be good if they could fix the 'zoom fully in' problem though.

Would be good if some of the icons could be done so they don't damage the Samsung screens Sad Not sure how that could be done, as that is a flaw in the Samsung technology.

Can you explain how Samsung screens are being "damaged" by our app?

As I understand it, Samsung use amoled screens which are like the PC screens of old that suffer from screen burn.

It's a Samsung issue.

The answer is not to have the same element in the same position for too long. What too long is I don't know.

I think that the solution is well known K, but how do you achieve that on an app running long term that has static stuff on the display?

My solution is to make sure I don't buy a new phone with a amoled display Very Happy . Reduces my choices though...

For me, the option to have it run blank and only produce a visible speed sign when I have a heavy right foot would do.

But, others use it differently.

Looking around amoled is the future as found on:

iPhone X
Google Pixel 2
Samsung 8 series

Problems ahead ?

So are there no static elements on any other Samsung apps at all then?

Do you rearrange your home screen icons every half hour?

Seems odd... :/

Not for me no, because usually I only use my phone for phone calls, emails and a bit of Facebook. I have no other apps that stay on all the time after the 15 second time out, except CamAlert. It is very clear to see that the images burned in the screen belong to this app, despite not using it all day, every day.

Camalert is the only app that I "need" to run all of the time. Everything else that I use times out after at most 2mins. I even have MemoryMap running as a hiking gps, but it only stay visible for a couple of minutes and then runs without a screen until it is woken up again. I would have thought that CamAlert could be modified to run in much the same way.

I must admit that I haven't seen any screen damage yet on my Samsung, but the device is only 12 months old and I do have the screen brightness well down so as not to distract too much.

I would however prefer it to blank out the screen until cameras were detected.

it must be due an app update? running it's own map has always been super laggy (yes I have mentioned it) and works best in the background of another map ie Waze or google maps. I am on android p, and I am sure I read they will force (like Apple) apps to be current spec/ up to date/ recent versions, or they will be kicked off the Play Store with Android P....

yes it is an invaluable app, but the buggy map running (will not zoom in or out without being fuzzy and unusable imo) lets it down. I don't think Cameralert has had an app store update in years ???

rant over

It actually uses Google maps, not it's own. That does not mean that the other bugs are excusable though.

What a great idea, but even better if CamerAlert could be set to display the current speed limit silently on an otherwise blank screen - but to give a really strident, persistent audible warning of approaching cameras, if you have inadvertently gone over the limit and which goes silent as soon as your speed drops below the limit.

Perhaps variable limits could be displayed as V with a suitable audible warning, and average speed zones as they are now, with current and average speed since entering the zone.
