Is there a time of year when Garmin release new Satnav units? I'm in the market for an upgrade from my 2699LMT-D which is not my original purchase due to the power socket failing twice on my first one and the first replacement they supplied. Ideally, I would go for a unit, preferably without an integral dashcam (but might be persuaded otherwise) with a different power connection.

Generally in the New Year (CES in Las Vegas) but then you'll be paying maximum price, normally deals are available 6 months or so later. I would be looking at current Drive models now if it were me, as in the run up to Christmas there are normally good deals to be had.

You've been unlucky with power connectors, even my old Nuvi 1310 is still going strong, never had a power connector fail.

They may be launched at CES but they typically aren’t in stock until mid April

It does depend but I agree there can be a lag between announcement and availability.

Thanks both. I've been taking a closer look at the 51 LMT-S but will bide my time because the cheapest I've been able to find is nearly £300.

I looked for one around £300, but couldn't find one.
I wonder what's the attraction with that particular model rather than an LMT-D
Nearest I can get is [url+] HERE[/url] Not sure if it has the Smartphone link facility like the 51S though?
Looked at the DS61 LMT-D topref?

blx. Can't be assed to sort the link again. Rolling Eyes

Interestingly having just had a look again at Garmin's website seems the latest models not only come with free lifetime map updates and traffic but also lifetime speed camera updates.

I think the power connector is of the type I've not had a lot of luck with.

I've always had the tendency to opt for the higher spec in most things I buy because I'm one of those people who, after a few days and uses, think "I should have gone for the other one"!!! My other-half used to always gives me grief but has given up now ;-)

Just a quick question on this same topic, I note that the CES is in the second week of January. I've booked a Vegas holiday in March so does anyone know whether it's possible to buy a new unit while I'm over there (provided of course that there's a new one that fits the bill for me)? It's supposedly cheaper to buy tech in the States but I am also mindful that I would require the appropriate maps for this part of the world.

Does anyone have any comments or advice please?
