I've had my TomeTom XL Live IQ routes edition with European maps 42 countries since new in 2010. I've always had map updates and so the map has always been up to date. I tried to update last week to V995 and it crashed when it was near the end of the installation. I messed about, formatting the TomTom etc until it updated but when I plug the device into teh PC TTHome tells me that the map update didn't complete and wants me to re-install it. If I try to re-install it will crash.
On Saturday morning I had email from TomTom saying that my SatNav is at the end of the road and won't be able to handle all of their new maps but I could be a one time update of the UK map for £12! Nice of TomTom, I renewed in May for a 12 month update and now it looks like it won't work!
If I upgrade to a new TomTom will it work with third party POI's or have they resolved that issue now? I have hundreds of homemade POI's for places I visit with work and don't want to lose these.
Just wondering if what model to go for if I do upgrade to replace my aging but trusty old XL Live IQ, I need European maps and live traffic.
Cheers.

Not quite true.
If you want a PND with camera/POI proximity alerts, then you need a Garmin as the later TTs do not allow for POI proximity alerts. If all you want/need is POIs that you can navigate to, then I believe that the latest TTs will now allow the import of POIs. It appears from the OP that POIs is what Saultee wants to do, as he/she did not mention proximity alerts, just fixed POIs

Thanks for the replies. I also use speed camera alerts from this site so it looks like garmin is the way to go.
Have Tomtom stopped supporting the XL Live IQ now? If so, it's a bit naughty of them to sell me a map update and live service subscription a few months before dropping the support for the device!
