Ford has chosen Sygic's GPS navigation app as the first app to be supported by new Ford Sync 3 equipped vehicles.

When the new system launches on 2018 model range vehicles, a smartphone that is running Sygic, when connected via USB, will display the app and controls on the in-dash display giving access the touch-screen controls, steering wheel mounted buttons and voice activations features.

Would have been better as a stand alone, only needing the phone for updates etc. Still, I suppose it needs the phone for their live traffic.

If their Sync 3 is anything like Sync 2 it'll be a waste of time, I have the new Mondeo and the software is simply awful, software switches that do nothing with no resolution from local dealers of Ford UK. In fact, the general answer from Ford is, that's the trouble with all this complex software..

I've jumped from Sync (on a 2012 Focus) to Sync 3 on a 2017MY Focus so no direct experience of Sync 2, but I have heard that is rather laggy / unresponsive? Sync 3 feels quite slick, all displays seem to update smoothly / responsively, even the optional nav calculates routes quickly, has pinch zoom and feels responsive. Hardware wise they've invested in switching to capacitive touch screen (Sync 2 is resistive technology IIRC) and presumably more processing grunt. The Sync 3 software is now built upon QNX too.

What would be really nice is to get Waze on board but presumably that has implications re how Google wants their satnav story to pan out, e.g. Waze v Google Maps and native Sync 3 v Android Auto.

Ford's Sync 2 is based on Microsoft technology which tells you all you need to know.
