Further to the article about Driver Awareness Courses, an article in the papers, has a staggering statistic - 1.2m drivers attended a speed awareness course in 2015! Although my maths may be a bit rusty, the published number of a 170% increase over 447,700 from 2010 according to my calculator should be 268%!

Wrong.
The difference between 1,200.000 and 447,700 =752,300

Divide the difference by the original and multiply by 100

752,300/447,700 x100 = 168% and that's pretty damn close to 170%. Get a better calculator or look up the method of calculating percentage differences.

But I agree that the second is 268% of the first, but they are talking about the increase (i.e. difference)
