The Dutch government and police are saying that some speed cameras cause traffic jams as a result of drivers braking sharply when they suddenly see them.

As a consequence, they have decided to remove any active mobile cameras from operation if they are seen to be causing traffic build up. This will be a temporary measure only to limit the tailbacks - the mobile devices will still monitor such areas up to the time tailbacks are anticipated.

A spokesman for the Dutch police told NOS news: "People brake, and that frequently has a domino effect on the drivers who are behind them - that can in the end lead to traffic jams."

The Dutch traffic information service, VID, claimed that in 2015, 23 major traffic jams were "100 per cent" caused by cameras.

The new policy started this week.

And HERE is why. Even in ideal conditions with no outside interference.
