I have a new PC (Windows 8.1) and I'm looking for a decent POI editor (preferably not online) that can handle most formats including KML.
I have been using POIEdit but is there anything better?
I have been using TomTom .OV2 files but have decided that KML files are probably the way to go as they can handle much more different types of data due to their elements and tags.
I wish to keep my "master" POI files in KML format and convert them to .OV2 and other formats as and when necessary.
I'd prefer free but would look at purchasing the right software.

I'm more familiar with TomTom .OV2 POI files, but they have limited information that they can use, e.g.:
Coordinates
POI description
Telephone number, although that's part of the description
I wish to convert some of my current .OV2 POI files into a ".KML master file" to contain much more information, although I do wish to be able to convert the .KML files back to the basic .OV2 POI files for use in SatNavs i.e. the older TomTom units that can actually use third party POIs. Some of the information that I'd like to store:
Coordinates
POI description
Telephone number
Date first recorded
Date last amended
Full postal address
email address
website
I'd also like the option to add further bits of information to the .KML master file.
Can anybody recommend any software that can do what I want?
Thanks, _________________ Robert.

Hello Privateer.
It's maybe a bit too long winded for your needs but I would use GPS Babel to convert my existing POI's to CSV format, edit them in a spredsheet and then use GPS Babel to convert into KPL. _________________ Garmin Nuvi 2599

I use a small program called POI Format Conversion (written by our own Oldie), which can read, and write, in over a dozen formats, including .kml, .ov2, .xls, .csv, .asc, etc.
I don't know it's limitations, but I would envisage it opening the .kml file and converting to .xls for editing purposes in Excel.
Then, rewriting the master .kml file, and/or creating an .ov2 file.
I've never used it in that scenario, as my needs are somewhat simpler. _________________ Richard
