Ignorance Of Speed Camera Law Sometimes Works

Alexander Hartman, who moved to Cedar Rapids, Iowa a few weeks ago, was unaware that speed cameras were used in his new neighbourhood. As a result, he managed to clock up 11 speeding tickets.

He argued that drivers should not be ticketed if they were not made aware of a traffic camera system in their area.

He told his local TV station KCRG that it was "wrong, because people should know what's going on before it happens."

It seems his local police force agrees - up to a point. They upheld his first ticket but cancelled the remaining 10.

A local police spokesman explained that they wanted to give drivers an opportunity to correct their behaviour before they are fined hundreds of dollars.
