Interesting quote from BBC Top Gear magazine. {May 2015 pp 49} re. TT live Traffic and concept of how it works from the TomTom expert.
Top Gear Mag wrote:
“They {TomTom based systems} all send speed measurements back to our cloud via GPS” sais Nick Cohn, the company’s senior traffic expert. “We put all that into a big data fusion machine that filters and cleans the info, and figures out which parts are reliable. It then updates the picture of the road network every 30 seconds.”

The information is then sent directly, again via a GPS signal, to individual satnav units…..{My bold}”

What chance does the average user stand to understand how it really works, let alone TT themselves, when the TT senior traffic expert publishes this sort of drivel, which, even as a basic concept, is just plain wrong?

Epic! Makes you wonder what all the fuss was about 2G and Vodafone. What I really, really liked was the magic machine - "We put all that into a big data fusion machine that filters and cleans the info, and figures out which parts are reliable". Bald old blokes with funny spectacles and white coats! They'll be getting one of those new-fangled computer things next.

Of course, if that's the TT senior traffic expert, it explains a lot of what we've been suffering. We need them to get the senior POI expert to explain how the third party POI system works (NOT).

I thought that it might give you a laugh Dennis.
Seems like he is in a cloud somewhere, not on this Earth like the rest of us mere users.
