i have a tom tom go live 825. The live traffic is very good as i do lots of miles.

They want the best part of £50 for the annual update then with the map updates that is the best part of £50 also.

So £100 a year is a lot of money. My mate said to get the new Tom Tom with Lifetime live traffic and maps updates for £140 asa one off payment.

Another friend says, The lifetime update is for the useful life of the product or how long they continue to support the product.

So what would you do, buy a new "lifetime unit" or continue to stump up £100 a year?

Cheers.

It depends upon how much you use things such as 3rd party POI's, itineraries, etc. As you will be aware, the new TT's are not supporting these features.
If you just want to go A-B with Traffic, then yes, a new TT will suit you. If you want a bit more, then, as a TT user of old it pains me much to say, look at Garmin.

Sad to hear that TT wont support other stuff.

If you can live without Custom POIs for a shortwhile - the feature is Beta at the moment with a now closed testing group - then definitely go with the latest Nav 4 series with lifetime traffic and lifetime map updates

If not, then something like the Garmin 2699 is a pretty good alternative (it has life mapping, life Digital Traffic and custom POIs) - its the closest thing to a TomTom I've used from Garmin - better (except mount) than the Garmin 3597 (which I also have)

Ultimately the new TomToms are superior with Traffic (not as good for general Roadworks) and interface and voice direction than the Garmins (in my opinion), but the Garmins are feature packed and very quick interfaces

Cheers for the replies.
I think I will stick with the traffic updates & keep all my POIS.

Kind regards
